This is a common problem for Windows 95, that's why I thought firstly for this, even before you describe your specs. If you don't use such a fix, the system will run to a variety of errors, from for example IOS, like you described.
For some reason whenever i get a vdi for windows 95 it says error initializing device ios you need to restart your computer.
